Project Overview: Clean Error Records, known for its cutting-edge experimental electronic music, embarked on a rebranding journey to revitalize its image and online presence. My involvement in this project was comprehensive, encompassing the rebranding process and the design of a new catalog site along with their logo and image. This endeavor combined my passion for music with my expertise in design, creating a platform that resonated with the label's unique identity.
Challenges: The challenge lay in developing a visual identity that truly encapsulated the innovative and avant-garde essence of Clean Error Records. Additionally, designing a user-friendly catalog site that appealed to both fans and artists, while showcasing the label's diverse range of music, required a nuanced understanding of both design and the music industry.
Solutions:
Concept: We had gone through several versions, changing the logo from what it was to what it is now. We wanted it to have a cyberpunk aesthetic. Anything associated with future ideals appears to have influenced our culture's acceptance of this style of artwork. Because of this... cyberpunk is more than a sci-fi subgenre; it is also a cultural movement that has an effect on industries such as media, design, gaming, architecture, fashion, and technology. Indeed, one might claim that we already live in a cyberpunk environment. This approach to the design was the perfect match.
Outcome:
The primary task was to redesign the website's logo and aesthetic. This label releases experimental electronic music, therefore it had to have a futuristic, minimalistic style that would be easy for people to explore but also incorporate some of the aesthetic elements of what the label stood for (Glitchy/Abstract). The music here fits well in with the cyberpunk art realm and has been incredibly motivating. They had already gone through a number of site modifications, but they still believed that a relaunch and rebranding were necessary to make their digital products stand out. Rebranding their previous logo, which represented what their audience associated them with, proved to be the most challenging task. After creating a few prototypes, we came up with a stunning new logo concept that complemented the overall design wonderfully.
The rebranded Clean Error Records emerged with a vibrant and fitting new identity, while the catalog site successfully captured the essence of the label’s innovative spirit. The website became a central hub for fans and artists, showcasing the label's diverse offerings in a user-friendly and visually appealing manner.
This project was a testament to my ability to blend artistic creativity with functional design, creating a digital space that not only served the label’s needs but also enriched the user experience. The positive feedback from the label, artists, and fans alike underscored the success of this transformation, marking a significant milestone in my journey as a designer passionate about music.
