Project Background: CareLink, an organization established in 1959, has a long-standing commitment to empowering adults with disabilities. My role in this project was to design and develop their website, with complete creative control over its aesthetic and functional elements. The website needed to reflect CareLink's compassionate mission and make their wide range of services easily accessible to users.

Challenges: The primary challenge was to create a website that effectively communicated CareLink’s ethos and the breadth of services they offer, from residential treatment to employment and education support. It was essential to design a platform that was not only informative but also empathetic and inviting. Additionally, ensuring the website was accessible to all users, including those with disabilities, was a crucial consideration.

Solutions:

  • Empathetic and Informative Design: The website's design was carefully crafted to embody CareLink's compassionate approach. I used warm, inviting colors and imagery that resonated with the organization's inclusive ethos. The layout was structured to guide users smoothly through information about CareLink's history, mission, and services.
  • User Accessibility: In line with CareLink’s commitment to inclusivity, special attention was given to making the website accessible to individuals with various disabilities. This included implementing features like screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation, and adjustable text sizes.
  • Clear Presentation of Services: To effectively showcase CareLink's spectrum of services, I designed a clear and intuitive navigation system. Each service, from residential treatment to supported housing and employment support, had its dedicated section, complete with detailed descriptions and easy-to-access resources.
  • Custom Features for Enhanced Navigation: I developed custom features such as interactive menus and service locators, making it simple for users to find relevant information. These features were designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, ensuring visitors could easily navigate the website and access the resources they needed.
  • Responsive Design: The website was fully responsive, ensuring a seamless experience across various devices. This was particularly important for ensuring that caregivers, family members, and individuals seeking services could access information from any device.

Outcome:

The CareLink website successfully captured the essence of the organization and became a vital tool in their mission to empower adults with disabilities. The empathetic design and functional layout resonated with users, making the site not only a repository of information but also a reflection of CareLink's dedication to care and support.

The accessibility features ensured that the website was a resource for everyone, aligning with the organization's inclusive values. The clear presentation of services and the ease of navigation greatly enhanced user experience, facilitating better access to CareLink's offerings. This project highlighted my ability to blend empathetic design with functional development, creating a digital platform that not only serves its purpose but also resonates with its core audience’s values and needs.
